Sportstake 13 FAQs

To play Sportstake 13, you must predict the outcomes of 13 soccer matches from around the world. You do not have to predict the score, only whether each match will end in a home win, a draw, or an away win. There are two rounds of fixtures to bet on every week.

To win Sportstake 13, you must correctly predict the outcomes of at least 10 matches on the same fixture list. There are prizes for matching 10, 11, 12, or 13 matches correctly – the more you get right, the bigger the prize.

Sportstake 13 costs R2 per board.

Multi-Play allows you to predict more than one outcome for the same match. For example, you could predict that a particular match will end in a home win or a draw. To do that, you just need to mark more than one outcome on your betslip for a single match, and also mark the Multi-Play box at the bottom of the game board.

You can mark two possible outcomes for the same match (known as a ‘double’) or even all three outcomes (a ‘triple’). You will then play every possible combination of your chosen predictions (each combination is one board) but note that you have to pay for every board too. The cost of Multi-Play bets can rise rapidly as a result.

With Multi-Play, you can bet on all three outcomes for any of the 13 fixtures on the list – that bet is known as a triple. So yes, if you do that then you are guaranteed to have predicted the correct outcome for that particular match.

However, the way the bets are calculated means that the cost of Multi-Play bets increases quickly. That’s because you bet on every possible combination of outcomes on your betslip. So, for example, if you play one triple (mark all three possible outcomes for one match) and standard single bets for the 12 other fixtures, you would pay for three boards, as there are three possible combinations of your chosen outcomes:

• Board 1: One home win + your chosen outcomes for the 12 other matches
• Board 2: One draw + your chosen outcomes for the 12 other matches
• Board 3: One away win + your chosen outcomes for the 12 other matches

There are more than 1.5 million possible combinations of home/draw/away across 13 fixtures, so if you wanted to play a triple on every match on the list, you would need to pay for over 1.5 million boards.

At R2 per board, that would mean spending R3 million on your bet, which is obviously unrealistic. You can only spend a maximum of R2,000 on each betslip anyway, so even if you were willing to pay for 13 triples, you would not be able to.

Propick is an automated way to generate predictions for upcoming fixtures. All you do is choose how many boards you want to play and then the Propick system will generate Multi-Play bets equalling that total. The predictions are generated partly at random and partly based on weighted results from previous fixtures.

Multi-Draw (not to be confused with Multi-Play) is not available for Sportstake games, so you can only bet on the fixtures that have been released. The fixtures change twice a week, so there’s no way to carry the same predictions forward from one round to the next.

The midweek fixtures are added to the Sportstake 13 Fixtures page every Monday and the weekend fixtures are updated every Friday morning. You can also obtain fixture lists from any National Lottery retailer. The outcomes from each round of fixtures are added to the Results page as soon as the matches have been played.

The odds of predicting 13 matches correctly to win the jackpot are approximately 1 in 1,594,323. The odds of winning any prize are 1 in 607.

These are the odds of correctly predicting the 13 match outcomes if they were determined entirely at random. The results of soccer matches, however, are not entirely random, so the odds here should be used as an approximate guide only.

As soccer matches are not random events like lottery draws, you can potentially improve your chances of winning by paying careful attention to the form of each team and knowing their strengths and weaknesses.

No, there is no guaranteed minimum jackpot in Sportstake 13. Fifty percent of the revenue from ticket sales goes into the overall prize fund for each round of fixtures, and then 30 percent of that money is allocated to Division 1. If the jackpot is not won in a particular round, it will roll over to be added to the Division 1 fund for the next round of fixtures.

Sportstake 13 results are taken at the end of ninety minutes plus any extra time played, but do not include penalty shootouts. For example, if two teams are tied at the end of 90 minutes and then the home team goes on to win in extra time, the result would be marked as a home win.

If for any reason one of the matches on the fixture list is not played, all bets on that match will be settled as correct.

The National Lottery reserves the right to suspend Sportstake games entirely should there be widespread disruption to soccer matches. Such was the case in March 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic caused the postponement of soccer matches all around the world. The National Lottery was forced to suspend Sportstake games for over four months as a result of the disruption.
